Before making a reservation, please understand the following:

If you`ve stayed in hostels before, you`re probably familiar with most of this. Please read carefully and decide if this is indeed the place for you!

What`s a hostel????

A hostel is not a hotel, a B & B, a motel.

The Homer Hostel is a funky old house in town, near the beach, kitchen, BBQ, lounge, internet. Simple and fun for most people.

There is no one to clean up after you, make your bed, do your dishes, etc, etc. In addition to this, to keep the place clean, everyone is expected to do a 15 minute chore each day.

You`ll probably meet people you like here. Many people have met longtime friends here, There have even been some husbands and wives who have met here. On the other hand, since a hostel is more communal than a hotel, you might have to deal with people you might not like, who have different ideas than you, who might have just gotten back from hiking and need to wash their feet! We try to help facilitate everyone getting along but can`t guarantee anything.

It is quite communal (however, everyone has to respect one another - like respect people`s privacy, quiet time, right to sleep at night, food - don`t `borrow` others food unless you ask first -common sense stuff. At managers discretion, you will be asked to leave with no refund if you don`t use your common sense. Thx.

The Homer Hostel is one of the least expensive places to stay in Homer. However, it might not be the best suited to you or the best `deal`. We give part of the money you give us to local and worldwide nonprofits like the public radio stations here, museums, libraries, environmental nonprofits, friends of animals groups, alternative energy groups. We also try to use recycled products and nontoxic cleaners when possible even though they cost more; we pay extra for our electricity to support Alaskan renewable energy producers to help produce the electricity we use here. We are also saving to install a solar hot water heating system. If these priorities are not important to you, you might think you`re not getting your moneys worth here. That`s OK. But please don`t hold it against us! And we won`t hold it against you if you decide to stay elsewhere.

In order to keep our prices low for you, due to rising credit card processing fees, we have discontinued accepting credit cards. Acceptable payment is with cash, travelers check , and personal check (with ID). There is an ATM within walking distance of the hostel as well as a grocery store where you can receive cash back with debit cards. We apologize for any inconvenience but hope you understand we have done this to keep our prices low for you.

Are reservations guarantee you a space at the hostel. We do not guarantee private rooms. They will be available on a first come first serve basis. Most night you can stay in private room no problem. The nights when we can`t satisfy your request to stay in a private room you can use our phone to call around and most likely can find a private room nearby (although it will most likely cost more than our prices). We hope you will give this new simplified credit card reservation system a try. Come on, live on the edge, take a chance. You are a lucky person (free horoscope!)

Most people have a great time at the Homer Hostel. Many come back year after year. However, a small number regret making reservations here. I don`t like when this happens so want to explain the above to you before you reserve our limited space. Thanx for taking the time to read and understand it.
